Job cuts and layoffs are on the increase. In the past 3 months highly, recognizable companies have either laid off employees or have announced plans to. There will be more layoffs and there will be a rise in new jobs with a time lag. Helping and preparing people to capitalize on the emergence of new jobs is one of our core objectives.
History, particularly the industrial revolutions show the movement of jobs and employment – the loss and rise of jobs, all driven by technology! The 1st Industrial revolution 1760s-1840s driven by steam power & mechanization, moved work from farms to factories; the Second (c. 1870s- 1914) used electricity to enable mass production; the Third (late 20th century) – The Digital revolution – brought automation with computers and IT and led to reimagining processes; and the Fourth is defined by AI and Internet of Things and Data. Some say there is a Fifth revolution in the wings, with a keen focus on man-machine collaboration; be it Human Led – Machine assisted or Machine Led – Human Managed, that will change the face of work.
Enterprises should be agile in redefining their workforce and make room for a wide swath of employment models including fractional work.
